This study aims to determine and understand how the participation of Arab ethnic groups in the 2024 Palembang Mayor and Deputy Mayor election, as well as how collective identity values influence the political involvement of this community in the local democratic process.

The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation in several Arab community areas in Palembang, such as Kampung Al-Munawar, Assegaf, and Kuto. Data analysis is carried out through data collection, data reduction, data presentation and verification and confirmation of conclusions thematically based on identity politics with multicultural citizenship theory (Kymlicka, 1995). to explore patterns of participation and political attitudes of Arab ethnic groups.

The results of the study revealed that the participation of Arab ethnic groups in the 2024 Palembang Pilkada was not only limited to the use of voting rights as voters, but also included active involvement in religious assemblies that functioned as strategic spaces for the exchange of political information and the formation of collective opinions within the community. In addition, there was an increase in involvement in political parties, especially among the younger generation, although this participation was still individual and not yet organized collectively. The choice of political support for the Arab community was more influenced by the similarity of religious values and emotional closeness to the candidate pair compared to the assessment of the work programs or policies offered specifically. This shows that aspects of religious identity and emotional solidarity are the main factors in determining their political attitudes in the context of regional head elections.

In conclusion, the political participation of Arab ethnic groups in Palembang is based on a strong collective identity and polyethnic rights expressed in various forms, but needs to be strengthened in formal and organized political involvement. Suggestions are given so that political awareness and the active role of the younger generation continue to be encouraged, and communication and relations between the community and prospective regional leaders are maintained continuously to strengthen the representation and contribution of Arab ethnic groups in local democracy.
