Abstract

ABSTRACT
Various phenomena of land cover change have occurred over time. This land cover
change is driven by increasing population growth, which directly impacts the growing
demand for land. Gandus District, located in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province,
has a significant area and a diverse population. Gandus has significant potential for
regional development, particularly in agriculture, trade, and industry. Gandus also
faces challenges in environmental and natural resource management, particularly
related to land cover and the increasing demand for land with population growth.
Land cover analysis for 2020 and 2025 can be performed using an unsupervised
classification method with Landsat 8 imagery, allowing for analysis of land cover
changes that occurred (5 years). The analysis results can show changes in land area for
various types of land cover, such as forests, rice fields, agriculture, settlements, and
rivers. Analysis of land change in Gandus District has seen significant changes in land
cover patterns, with an increase in the area of residential, agricultural, and river land,
and a decrease in the area of forest and rice fields. This analysis can be used for more
effective land planning and management in Gandus District.
Landsat imagery data processing in ArcGIS uses the Unsupervised Classification
(ISO) method, which automatically identifies spectral patterns in imagery and groups
them into several distinct classes. The results of this classification can be used to
identify various types of land cover, such as forests, rice fields, settlements, agriculture,
and rivers. There are those that have increased and there are those that have decreased
the area of land cover, for the increased land area, namely residential land 944,440,679
ha (19.01%) and agricultural area 997,675,411 ha (20.08%). The area of land cover that
has decreased is forest land 690,380,487 ha (13.90%), the area of rice fields has
decreased by 1208,089,542 ha (24.32%), the area of rivers has increased by 608,380,487
ha (12.25%).
