Abstract

ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT
The mangrove ecosystem plays a vital and dominant ecological component in the Berbak-Sembilang National Park (TNBS), which is located in South Sumatra. This area is also known as one of the largest mangrove ecosystems in western Indonesia, making it a strategic region for conservation efforts and sustainable coastal ecosystem management). The area is geographically located at 104°11’ - 104°57’ East Longitude and 01°38’ - 02°28’ South Latitude. The mangrove vegetation that grows along the Sembilang River, Terusan Dalam, and most of the rivers that flow into the Terusan Sekanak or Benawang Bay is dominated by the species Rhizophora mucronata.
The data shows the spatial distribution of Above Ground Carbon (AGC) values categorized into four classes: very low, low, moderate, and high. The 'low' category has the largest area, which is 99,710.7 hectares or equivalent to 47% of the total area. Meanwhile, the 'moderate' category covers an area of 32,395.7 hectares or 15% of the total, and the 'high' category covers 80,003.3 hectares or about 38%. The 'very low' category has a very small area of only 0.06113 hectares with a percentage of 0%, making its impact on the overall region minimal. This data indicates that areas with low AGC values still dominate the study area, but the distribution of high values is also quite significant. This information is important in supporting carbon management and conservation efforts in the ecosystem.
