Idioms pose one of the most significant difficulties in English for non-native speakers, as their meanings cannot be interpreted literally from individual words, requiring a deep understanding of the context and cultural subtleties. This complexity often led to misunderstandings, making idiomatic phrases a key focus in language learning and translation studies. This study aims to identify the types of idioms according to Fernando’s classification, namely pure idioms, semi-literal idioms, and literal idioms, and also to analyze the semantic meanings contained in these idioms. The author employed a descriptive, qualitative approach through document analysis techniques, which included analyzing film dialogues that contained idioms. The focus of this study was idiomatic expressions in the dialogues of the film Bilal, which were analyzed using a semantic and narrative context approach. The results of the study indicate that the majority of idioms fall into the category of semi-literal idioms, which reflect a combination of literal and figurative meanings. These expressions serve not only as aesthetic elements of language but also strengthen character development, create conflict, and reflect Arabian Islamic cultural values in the English language. This research confirms that films can be an effective tool for learning idioms because they provide a visual and cultural context that deepens the understanding of idiom meanings. This study is expected to contribute to the teaching methods of idioms in English language learning as a foreign language.
