This study aims to analyze the perceptions of vocational high school (SMK)
students in Ilir Timur I District, Palembang, toward the Free Nutritious Meal
Program (MBG) in 2025. The focus is on students’ evaluations of meal quality,
the program’s contribution to learning concentration, and the consistency of
implementation at school. Students are viewed as policy beneficiaries who
construct their own meanings based on experience. The research applies a
descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews,
observation, and documentation involving SMK Negeri 1 Palembang students as
main informants, supported by MBG officers and education stakeholders. Data
analysis followed reduction, display, and conclusion drawing based on perception
theory.
Findings show generally positive student perceptions, as the program helps
meet nutritional needs, reduces family expenses, and supports learning
concentration and physical endurance. However, concerns were raised regarding
menu variety, taste suitability for adolescents, and implementation consistency.
Perceptions are influenced by personal experience, socio-economic background,
and situational factors at school. In conclusion, MBG is perceived as socially and
educationally beneficial but requires improvements in service quality and
sustainability. Increasing menu variety, considering student preferences, and
strengthening feedback-based evaluation are recommended to enhance program
effectiveness and acceptance.
