Abstract

The highway is an important factor for the development of human life, because the development of the road and the development of human life affect each other. Increased congestion on urban and out-of-city roads is due to increased ownership of vehicles, limited resources for road construction and not optimal operation of existing traffic flow facilities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that affect traffic congestion on the Jalan Mayor Salim Batubara Palembang, so that an action plan program can be developed to deal with the problem of traffic congestion.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence traffic congestion on Jalan Mayor Salim Batubara Palembang, so that an action plan program can be developed to deal with the problem of traffic congestion. After obtaining the volume data that occurs during peak hours, a traffic analysis is carried out based on technical aspects based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI, 1997) to determine side constraints, capacity levels and degree of saturation in the Major Salim Batubara road section.
Based on the analysis results obtained that congestion is caused by the side of the road used as a place of trade, people crossing, and parking areas so it is very disturbing road activities with side obstacles have the highest value of 600. In the Major Salim Batubara road there are shops, markets, vehicles stop, parking out of place. Traffic congestion is in a stable condition, operating speed is starting to be limited by other vehicles and obstacles are being felt by surrounding vehicles with the results of calculations. The total value of traffic volume reaches 2158 pcu / hour with a road capacity of 2610 pcu / hour and has a degree of saturation obtained 0.826.
