The Role of the Department of Transportation in the Governance of Urban
Public Transport in the City of Palembang". The purpose of this study was to find
out how the role of the Palembang City Transportation Service is in managing and
managing urban public transportation. The phenomena that researchers found in
the field were tariffs that were not in accordance with government regulations,
low interest in KIR testing, service schedules and urban public transport routes
that were not evenly distributed. Researchers use role theory according to
Heroepoetri. The dimensions used are the role as a policy, the role as a strategy,
the role as a communication tool and the role as a dispute resolution tool. The
research method used was qualitative and there were seven informants. Data
obtained through observation, interviews and documentation. The procedure for
testing the validity of the data was carried out using source, time and technique
triangulation. The results of the study reveal that the role of the Department of
Transportation has not run optimally because they have not acted decisively on
urban public transport owners who set fares not according to regulations, who
have not carried out KIR tests and have not taken firm action against base ojeg
drivers who have hindered equitable access to transportation. In order for this
transportation service to run optimally, the Palembang City Transportation
Service needs to further improve the implementation of supervision, control,
planning and regulation of traffic management
