Abstract
This research project aims to describe the effectiveness of flood control and prevention by the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Office of Palembang City. To this end, a qualitative approach with a purposive sampling method will be employed. The data was obtained from the Functional Position of Irrigation Engineering of the PUPR Office through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis was conducted in accordance with the Miles and Huberman model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the PUPR Office has implemented various initiatives, including the construction of reservoirs, sluice gates, pumping stations, and drainage maintenance, which have contributed to the reduction of flood points. However, the community and NGO Kawal Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (KAWALI) perceive these programmes to be suboptimal, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall, citing a lack of community involvement. Potential solutions include joint evaluation, enhanced transparency, and collaboration to enhance flood control strategies.
