Abstract
ABSTRACT
English proficiency, especially in listening and speaking skills, is essential for global communication, career opportunities, and academic success. This study investigates the effectiveness of using podcasts to enhance these skills among seventh-grade students at SMP Xaverius Maria. The study involved 62 students, divided into an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 31 students. The experimental group received podcast-based instruction, while the control group followed the standard curriculum. Pre-test and post-test assessments measured improvements in listening and speaking skills. Data analysis included average scores, n-gain calculations, and inter-rater reliability tests, conducted using SPSS. The experimental group showed significant improvements in both listening and speaking skills. The average post-test score for listening comprehension in the experimental group was 81.58, compared to a pre-test average of 66.61, reflecting a mean difference of 14.97. The t-value of -10.25 (p < 0.001) indicates a significant increase in listening skills. These findings suggest that podcasts are an effective tool for language learning, offering engaging and authentic listening experiences that enhance overall skill development. The significant improvement in the experimental group's performance underscores the potential of integrating podcasts into English language education. Podcasts can significantly enhance listening and speaking skills in language education. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term impact and applicability of podcasts across different educational settings.
