Abstract

During the covid pandemic, which has an impact on all sectors including education, which causes the learning system at universities to be changed from offline to online learning. This has led to the learning system at Indo Global Mandiri University spent over 2 years for online learning. Online learning is a type of education that is provided electronically via the internet or other computer-based technologies. It is also known as e-learning, remote education, or virtual learning. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges have conducted online learning during the previous three years. The purposes of this study were to find out the relationship between students' perception of online learning and learning achievement, specifically reading achievement and to find out what were the perception of English education students towards online learning at Indo Global Mandiri University Palembang. The quantitative method used in this research was a correlational design to analyze the data. The population for this study were all English Language Education students. The data collection was done through a questionnaire and reading comprehension test. This study showed the results that the perception of students was in the low category with a percentage of 38%, which means that the perception of English Education students at Indo Global Mandiri University was negative perception. While the results of the reading test of English Education students were included in the advanced category with a percentage of 50%. It indicated that students' reading achievement was not much influenced by their perception of online learning. In this study, the perception factor of online learning, which is an internal factor, did not show a significant relationship with reading comprehension achievement, indicating that there were other aspects that may be more dominant in influencing students' reading achievement, such as motivation, prior knowledge, quality of learning, emotional intelligence, social environment. Therefore, this study emphasizes that students, lecturers, and educational institutions must work together in improving services, communication, and online-based education system so that it is more useful in increasing students’ achievement. This finding provides insight for educational institutions to evaluate and optimize the online learning approach, so that other factors that impact on students' learning achievement can be more concerned and improved.
