AN ANALYSIS OF METAPHOR AND HYPERBOLE THAT USED BY THE CHARACTER ON "THE BATMAN" MOVIE

The purposes of this research are divided into two parts; the first is to
Understand in depth the metaphors and hyperbole utilized by the main character
and almost every supporting character in the film. The second is to understand how
metaphor and hyperbole are used in the film to aid in understanding the message it
is trying to convey. the use of metaphor and hyperbole in the movie helps to build
the message conveyed in the movie. This research applied a descriptive qualitative
method. The present study entitled "An Analysis of Metaphor And Hyperbole That
Used by The Character on "The Batman" Movie" is concerned with the analysis of
the figurative language in the form of metaphor and hyperbole that this movie script
contains and the meaning contained therein. The topic of figurative language is
interesting because it gives people new information when they are speaking,
reading, writing, and also listening to the source or something that contains
figurative language. The aims of this study are to identify and analyze the how many
metaphor and hyperbole used in “The Batman” movie script and the meaning
conveyed. The researcher chose descriptive study as the kind of research and
presented the results in a qualitative way. In collecting the data, the researcher used
document analysis. The method consists of three steps, The first step was
downloading the movie script from the internet. Then the movie script was read
repeatedly and intensively. The last step was counting the metaphor and hyperbole.
The result of this study shows that there are 6 metaphors and 4 hyperbole. The
researcher uses situational context to know the meaning of each figurative language
that appears in The Batman movie.
