ABSTRACT

The Taman Purbakala Kerajaan Sriwijaya (TPKS) is a significant historical heritage site in Palembang that requires a robust visual communication system. However, current conditions indicate that the existing information media do not meet design feasibility standards. The primary issues identified in this research are visual incoherence across the site, low legibility due to material degradation, and the unprofessional use of temporary signage, which negatively impacts the site’s destination branding. The general objective of this research is to redesign an integrated Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) system to enhance navigation efficiency while strengthening the visual identity of TPKS as a historical tourism destination. The methodology employed is the Design Thinking framework—encompassing the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test—utilizing a qualitative approach through field observations, interviews, and literature reviews on sign system principles. The final output of this design is a comprehensive signage system, ranging from directional boards to historical information panels, which integrates modern aesthetics with visual elements characteristic of the Sriwijaya Kingdom. This design is expected to facilitate visitor mobility and elevate the professional visual standards of TPKS.
